She is Unique

My daughter is Unique

She is like no one else

Yes, she can be associated with many groups and cannot be associated to many others

When people say my child looks typical that doesn’t excites me, because I can see she is different 

When people tell me she behaves in a particular way because children with Down syndrome do so, I don’t agree, because I see each child as an unique individual 

My baby is my pride

She takes time to achieve things

That makes us not celebrate just her success but her progression to success

We experience her steps to reach her goals

She helped us learn to take a moment, to enjoy the journey

My daughter is not defined by her condition, but surely her condition is a part of her

And there might be times we wished she didn’t have her condition 

But that would mean she will be different than who she is now, and we are in love with the version she is

Just that we wish if her difficulties and pain can be reduced, but I believe that is what most parents want for their children

To wish they have an easier life than they have been given

When I was going to have her

Mostly people showed me how difficult my life might turn out to be because of her

But till now, even with all the hardships, I can truly say that I am happy and satisfied

I am happy because of her

I am in absolute awe of her and love her deeply and regret nothing in relation to her

I don’t know if life is going to be more difficult, but each moment I have with her, I feel blessed

People might think I am lying or out of my mind or sympathise with me

But honestly, I am happy and she is the reason for it

I don’t pity her or myself

She is capable, thus she can overcome all of her issues

She is the bravest soul I have met and the purest

I cannot put it completely in words what she means to me

Back in time when I was an aspiring parent, I had few expectations of my to be child 

- for her to be beautiful 

- for her to be friendly with Coco - my elder daughter, my pet, my beautiful black labrador

I feel she is so mesmerisingly beautiful that she takes my breath away at times

She plays with Coco and loves her in her own way

I know my baby is the smartest because given her challenges, she outperforms each time

People might see her through the lens of milestones but what we see is her efforts and her curiosity 

She, with an extra chromosome, 2 open heart surgeries, has achieved more than our expectations 

She surprises us everyday
